Remembering Prof. Anil Agashe

Since the news broke yesterday (Oct 24th, 2015), I have been struggling to find words to express as to what you meant to me ..I am devastated with the thought that you are no longer going to be around to guide us. I have known you from your very first induction address to MBA++ 2012-14 Batch and then through regular lectures at PUMBA. I have known you through your blogs, your poems, your Facebook posts, your tweets and more so through one to one interaction we had during my MBA and even later. I cannot really enlist what you have given us and it would be so naive of me to even try doing so.

I feel so proud that I had the opportunity to sit through your lectures, get to know the world through your learned experiences. An individual of own style and standing, learned & compassionate and someone who was so warm towards everyone who approached for help..what a stupendous human being you were!

Your leaving is so sudden and shocking ..the void so irreplaceable..We wish people like you would never die..

Sir, we have all the memories of you in our hearts, very vivid, very much clear and we will miss you for what you have been to us..a rare friend who happened to be everything for everyone.

Rest in peace Prof. Anil Agashe ..Thank you for accepting us..!

Five things to learn from 'The Immortals of Meluha' !

...to me The Immortals of Meluha, is a political commentary with messages for our world & a hope that since they flow from the Mahadev himself, they shall find greater acceptance. Be it Shiva’s battle cry – Har Har Mahadev – as every man a Mahadev or the valour of Sati who fights her own battles – every passage is rich in meaning and yet, open to interpretation. Therein lies the strength of this book.

There are handfuls of beautiful things that you can take away from this book, it teaches you:

...that you can’t just play by the rules, because someone else made them...in their favour – Shiva, time-to-time, through his actions – through his meticulous assessment always checks the righteousness and fairness of laws and rules out those with disparity, as in case of prevalent Vikarma law in Meluha.

...that if you want something from a person, you ought to give that person something s/he wants...it’s called ‘Theory of Transactions’. It makes up the fabric of society. You know the cloth that we wear is created when cotton threads are woven together. Similarly, transactions are threads that when woven together make up a society, it’s culture. Or in case of a person, their character. If you want to understand a person’s character, look closely at their interpersonal interactions – their transactions. Transactions are about give and take. Understand what they crave for and make them an offer they can’t refuse and you can get whatever you want.

...that destiny comes first, deeds follow! Some of us think that they don’t deserve the life they’ve got; that their deeds so far do not commend the kind of life they live. But a Pandit in a conversation with Mahadev poses an excellent argument, he says, you don’t earn the Title (or life), after you’ve done your deeds. You do your deeds because of and only after you believe that you already are The One. It doesn’t matter what others think. It’s about what you believe. Believe in your true-self and you will be the one you ever dreamed off.

...that people who stand against you--your opponents may not always be evil. It’s just that they might be different and being different isn’t evil.

...that to have a mighty HEART and dignity, you don’t have to be rich, you just got to have ONE. It will not make your burden any lighter, but it will make you feel strong enough to carry it...!

Thanks @Amish Tripathi for the amazing read.

Friends Falling Apart

This afternoon, I was sitting alone in Aniket canteen at University. I was alone, waiting for food to be served. Thinking hard about the fact that Abhijeet, Ajinkya and Amit had already left the hostel and rest will be doing so in less than a week, brought tears to my eyes. It was overwhelming and couldn't resist but to cry. I wonder how fast the time has flown by. Last two years have gone like anything, as if a magician had swung the wand and it's gone, literally.

Abhijeet, I still remember the day we met for the first time at PUMBA. It was around 8 in the morning, the sky filled with dark monsoon clouds and you were sitting under the tree, in canteen side parking, alone, having breakfast. I just asked if you were from the first year and found out that you too lived in a hostel and then we went on talking about college and stuff. You seemed reticent at first only to find out, at a later stage of our friendship, how much talkative and "speech-o-holic" you are. last two years with you had been a great fun, yet greater learning's and the most beautiful time I have ever had in my life. You were always there whenever I needed you, unlike me. I was a** most of the times, hope you will forgive me someday.

Last night, seeing you off, wasn't easy for me either. Same goes for you, Ajinkya. The very thought that things aren't going to be the same again has devastated me from within. I was good at handling such things previously, but this time it's just not happening. Once a harmless memory is now having me fighting back tears as I blindly stumble through crowds trying to find a safe place to fall apart. In fact, I am devastated by the realisation, now that we no longer carry the status of the student, lying in the bed eating chips and talking about girls is not going to be an acceptable way of spending my day.

I secretly wish if we all, you, me, Ganesh, Sagar, Ajinkya, Amit, Laxman, Chandu, Mayur, Abhishek, Santosh, Samadhan, Rohit, Raina, could start it all over again. Not going to happen ... right??? :( I just hope, in near future, we get to meet more often than not and get some LIFE for ourselves!!

With love,

Shailesh
